Prerequisites

Prerequisites required: Candidates must submit either a 40 CFR Section 608 Type II or Universal certification to certification@bpi.org prior to getting certified.

Optional Training: While not required, training is a great way to strengthen your knowledge for the exam.

Certification: If successful, your certification will be available to download in your candidate account

Exam Information

Online exam: 50 multiple choice questions
Time limit: 2 hours
Passing Score: 70% or higher

Field exam: Hands-on
Time limit: 2 hours
Passing Score: 70% or higher
For Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) & Carbon Monoxide (CO) sections: 85% or higher

Standards of
Reference

Standards of reference for the the AC & Heat Pump certification exams include:

ANSI/BPI-1200-S-2017 Standard Practice for Basic Analysis of Buildings and Technical Standards for the AC & Heat Pump Professional

Recertification

BPI Air Conditioning & Heat Pump Professionals must recertify every three (3) years.

Bypass the online exam if you have accumulated and submitted at least 30 qualifying BPI Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over the course of your current certification cycle
Bypass the field exam if you have 3,000 hours of verified work experience during your current certification cycle
