The Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump (ccASHP) Assessor has the knowledge to evaluate residential buildings for cold climate air source heat pump readiness and retrofit potential.

Who Should Get the ccASHP Assessor Certificate of Knowledge?

 
Anyone who is part of the energy efficiency and clean  energy workforce and meets the prerequisites can take the ccASHP Assessor Certificate of Knowledge exam. The prerequisites can be found in the Scheme Handbook.

Training: Formal training is not required. However, there are organizations that offer training programs which can be highly beneficial, and a list of these can be found under Resources below.

Cost: The ccASHP Assessor Certificate of Knowledge exam costs are as follows:
  • Online Exam: $175 if paid by ACH / Check / Debit or $180.25 if paid by credit card
  • Note: Candidates who retake the exam to achieve a passing score must pay the fee for each attempt
Prerequisites: Prerequisites help potential test takers determine their readiness to challenge the exam. Pre-requisites include at least one of the following:
  • BPI certification
  • NATE Heat Pump (Service or Installation)
  • RESNET HERS Rater or RFI
  • HVAC Excellence Heat Pump (Employment Ready or Professional Technician)
  • Energy Skilled Heat Pump: Energy Skilled Heat Pump Programs | Building Science Education
  • Or similar industry credentials
  • At least 1 year of technical trades instruction, including HS-level vocational instruction
  • At least 1 year of work experience in a field directly related to heating and cooling systems, such as HVAC installation, maintenance, energy auditing, or building performance assessment.
  • Candidates confirm their qualifications through a self-reporting checklist online before they take the exam. BPI conducts random audits to maintain program integrity.
Exam Information
  • The open book multiple-choice exam consists of 75 scored multiple-choice questions. There is no time limit for the exam.
  • The exam passing score is 80%
  • BPI certificate exams are available online and can be taken any day of the week, at any time. In accessing the BPI Certificate Portal, you will be able to complete the prerequisite checklist, pay the fee, and take the exam.

Please note: If an applicant’s credential is revoked for any reason, they will not be eligible for a refund.
